Capitol Hill Update

Profiling Resolution Introduced
On Tuesday, Congressman Walberg (R-MI) along with Congressman Burgess (R-TX), Congressman Pocan (D-WI) and Congressman Peterson (D-MN) introduced H. Res. 255 the motorcyclists profiling resolution for the 116th Congress. This bipartisan resolution has the same language that the United States Senate passed unanimously in December of 2018.

The MRF has issued a call to action, asking our members to reach out to their Representatives and have them cosponsor H. Res 255. Over 1,000 members have answered the call and have contacted their elected officials.  While we in Washington work the halls of Capitol Hill, we need these elected officials to hear from you, their constituents back home, about this pressing issue. With pressure at home and here in Washington, we hope to see the House follow the Senate’s lead and take a stand against the profiling of motorcyclists.

Congressman Walberg, a legislative champion for the motorcycle community, went to the floor of the House of Representatives and spoke about the resolution and the need to end motorcyclists profiling. Click on the link below to see his powerful words on the issue.

Congressman Walberg Speaks on Resolution

If you have already answered the call to action, please take an opportunity to share the link with other riders in your state on social media or by sending them an email asking them to make a stand against motorcyclists profiling. You can visit us on Facebook (@bikers.rights) and share our post on your page and on other motorcycle Facebook pages that you follow. If you have not contacted your elected representative, please take a few moments to click the link below and make your voice heard.

Take Action on H. Res 255

We are pleased with the response we have received in two days and hope to keep the momentum going.  The following states are leading the charge in the Call to Action for H. Res. 255:

  1. New York
  2. Texas
  3. Louisiana
  4. Wisconsin
  5. Pennsylvania
  6. South Dakota
  7. California
  8. Minnesota
  9. Arizona
  10. Illinois

Heartland STEAM
Last weekend, ABATE of Nebraska hosted the 30th Annual Heartland Steam Conference in Omaha. Riders from South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska gathered to share information about how SMRO’s are tackling issues facing the motorcycle community. We even had a member from Colorado make the trip!

The weekend was an excellent opportunity for riders from different states to share their personal experiences working on motorcyclist issues at the state level. Topics included effective lobbying strategies, membership growth and fundraising techniques.  However, as we all know, more was learned after hours in the hospitality suite as riders shared their personal experiences, strengthening and building personal relationships…rider to rider.

Despite record flooding throughout the state, ABATE of Nebraska was an amazing host. The MRF thanks ABATE of Nebraska for a great weekend and outstanding hospitality!
